The initial design brief was for a box we were calling Command Tower. The product would have gear mechanisms in the lid and interchangeable art panels on the sides. Over a few months, I made progress each week prototyping aspects of Command Tower.
Alongside the lid development, I worked out an internal removeableĀ "core" to protect the deck of cards, as well as interchangeable art panels on the sides and lidĀ for maximum user customization.
Command Tower also included a lower drawer to store dice and counters, held in place by MAGNETS, along with a clever locking mechanism to keep the art panels in place, plus other accessory additions.
During Command Tower's complex development, we decided to pivot Battle Ready Boxes and build out a faster, simpler deck box to sell in the short term. Thus was born the BrB Deck Box. I began with some concepts, eventually landing on a knurled box with interior core and a slide-on lid.
The final version of the Deck Box had a VERY satisfying "POP" when the magnet lid snapped shut. Here's some promotional content I shot for the project.
As we ramped up sales of Deck Box v1, I was already prototyping new accessories and styles, including lid art panels, commander card holders, colorways, and counters.
For unforseen reasons, we ended up having to end the project in 2026, but it was a wonderful experience learning the ins and outs of 3D printing and precision product design!
